It has been another thrilling Premier League campaign, with Manchester City on course to lift the title. Here is a look at who have been the star players in the league and are in contention for the individual prizes at the end-of-season awards.
Bruno Fernandes
Since Bruno Fernandes arrived at Manchester United in January 2020, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have improved on the pitch. The Portugal international has given his side a huge boost, with goals, assists and creativity.
This season, Fernandes has scored 16 Premier League goals, which is a fantastic return for a midfield player. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been enough to compete with their city rivals as United are currently second in the table and are odds-on at -250 in the Premier League betting to finish in the top two at the end of the season. Without the Portuguese star, they would most likely be further down the standings.
Fernandes is many pundits’ frontrunner for the PFA Player of the Year Award this season. The playmaker is bidding to become the first Portuguese player since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008 to lift that trophy.
Ruben Dias
Manchester City were shaky at the back in the 2019/20 campaign so they went out and signed Ruben Dias last summer. This has proved to be a masterstroke as the former Benfica defender is playing a huge role in their excellent form this season.
Dias has been the most consistent defender in Pep Guardiola’s team. He has formed a great partnership with John Stones, a player whose City career looked all but over last year. The Portuguese defender’s influence is helping them have the best defensive record in the league. City conceded just 21 goals in their opening 30 matches.
Virgil van Dijk won the PFA Player of the Year prize in 2019 for his dominant performances for Liverpool and it would be no surprise if the City defender scooped that award this year. The 23-year-old is going to be a great player for the Manchester club for many seasons to come.
Harry Kane
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is now within 100 goals of Alan Shearer’s record of 260 as he continues to be Tottenham’s most consistent performer. It has been another excellent campaign for the England striker who is on course to finish with a tally in the high 20s.
There is speculation about Kane’s future and whether this may be his last season at Tottenham. His decision may depend on how well his team finishes the campaign. There is no doubt, on the performances of this season, that if you added the striker into any team in Europe, he would improve it.
Kane has added another dimension to his game this season. He has turned the provider on many occasions to his striker partner Son Heung-min. The pair have formed a fantastic partnership which is suiting both players on the pitch.
With the above three players and many big stars in the Premier League today, expect the final couple of months of the season to continue to produce many more magical moments.
