In order to prepare yourself for your upcoming baseball season, it’s a smart idea to make the most out of your spring training sessions. If you don’t know where to get started, simply continue reading to discover a handy guide, which is full of tried and tested spring training tips. Which will help you increase your skillset and your current level of fitness. So that you’ll be in prime condition for your next baseball season.

Spring Training Tips For Baseball Players:

Slowly work on building up your arm strength:

If you’re a pitcher or a catcher, you should aim to start your spring training three days before the rest of your team mates. As typically your throwing arm will be small on the second and third day of your training. So you should aim to get past this stage, before you start training with the rest of your team mates.

Also remember to gradually build up your arm strength, in order to avoid incurring a serious injury. Which could see you having to sit out the vast majority of the upcoming season.

If you’re a catcher work on completing a variety of catching drills:

If you’re a catcher, you should spend the majority of your spring training, completing a wide variety of catching drills. Work on blocking pitches, selecting targets, fielding bunts, catching pop up balls, throwing to bases and tagging plays.

Work on increasing your overall fitness:

As well as completing baseball specific drills and exercises it’s a great idea to work on increasing your overall fitness. For example, it’s a great idea to spend at least one hour per day working out at the gym. Ensure to complete a variety of cardio exercises as well as a variety of different strength based exercises.

If you’re unsure of which exercises you should concentrate on, it’s a great idea to talk to your team’s coach. As they be able to guide you in the right direction. For example, they may want you to work on increasing your speed and acceleration. Or they may tell you to work on increasing your flexibility, in order to decrease your chances of sustaining a long term injury.

Ensure to end each session with a quick warm down session:

While you don’t need to warm up before your training sessions as your body isn’t warm and you could end up injuring yourself stretching, make sure to end each training session with a quick warm down session.

Try to organize training sessions with other teams:

While you may not want to take part in training sessions with your team’s greatest rivals, you may want to organize training sessions with baseball teams from other leagues or divisions. As you’ll have to get used to dealing with pitches that are different from the pitches that are thrown by your team mates.

So if you want to get into peak physical condition for your upcoming baseball season, it’s a great idea to use all of the tips which are listed above, in order to get ready for your first game.
