If you are a guy and you have a family, sometimes it can feel as though you have no private space within your own home. This is, of course, a natural course of events when you grow older as a man and start a family.
Most of the available space will be taken up with children’s toys or other possessions such as games consoles and clothes, or more practical appliances like vacuum cleaners, irons, and dishwashers.
You may even bemoan the fact that most of the aesthetic decisions around the house have been made by your spouse; leaving you with very little that you can comprehensively call yours.
What’s more, you may gradually lose sight of all your personal possessions, such as books, magazines, or DVDs. There may even be more substantial items such as football tables, motorbikes, or musical instruments that are buried at the back of the garage, or hiding in the attic somewhere.
While it is important to put your family first, having a space of your own can be a fantastic way to unwind from the stresses of life, and this could easily come in the form of a man-cave.
If this is an option that you are considering, here is everything you need to know.
Make sure you put the electrical appliances in the right places
When you are building a man-cave for yourself, there are several aspects you need to consider. For example, you need to work out how big it is going to be, and therefore where you are going to have it.
If it is only going to be a small room, then you could squeeze it into a disused office space within your home. Alternatively, if you want to make it more of a feature room, then you might have to convert some loft or basement space.
Of course, if you truly want to go to town then you could always construct an outbuilding in your garden. Regardless of where you have it, remember to include enough plug sockets in the right places.
After all, the last problem you would want is to install a TV, beer fridge, and electric guitar amp, only to have a dearth of sockets to plug it into. To solve this issue, be sure to visit an electrical supplies shop for some expert advice.
Make a list of your favorite hobbies or possessions that you want to integrate
If you are struggling for ideas about how to make your man-cave great, then have a long think about your favorite hobbies and interests.
As a family man it might have been a while since you have thought solely about yourself, but consider what you enjoy doing in your spare time. It could be that you love music, sports, cars, and bikes…the list goes on. Once you have a theme, you can then design the space around it.
Create a mood board of cool designs
Once you have had a think about what you might want to include in your man-cave, it is time to piece it all together.
Unless you have interior design experience, this part might come as a struggle, but don’t worry. You can spark your inner creativity by collecting mood boards of man-caves you like the look of, and incorporating elements of their designs into your own space.
By doing this, you will end up creating a far more interesting and attractive room.
